Local firm sweeps boards in pet food awards

Castle Cary-based Crown Pet Foods, makers of James Wellbeloved and Royal Canin foods for dogs and cats, has swept the board for the second year in a row in a prestigious magazine awards competition.

Peter Lancaster collects the Your Dog and Your Cat product awards for James WellbelovedReaders of Your Dog and Your Cat, the two leading pet magazines from Bourne Publishing Group, voted James Wellbeloved the Best Dry Dog food and Best Dry Cat food in the UK, while sister brand Royal Canin picked up the Best Specialist Cat Food award for its Persian 30 food.

Both brands offer top quality nutrition for dogs and cats – James Wellbeloved is a natural, hypoallergenic food which was ‘born’ in the West Country some 15 years ago, while Royal Canin is a highly scientific food offering precision nutrition based on a cat or dog’s age, size, lifestyle, physical state and even breed. Royal Canin was the first brand ever worldwide to produce a food for an individual breed, and now offers specific foods for 17 dog and three cat breeds.

Your Dog and Your Cat are the most popular consumer magazines for dog and cat lovers respectively, with each having a monthly readership of over 25,000. Readers were asked to vote for their favourite products in a range of categories, involving food, accessories and other pet products.

Francois Demauge from Crown Pet Foods says: “We are really pleased to have won these awards – it is a real endorsement from the readers of Your Dog and Your Cat. Our aim on both brands is to provide foods which pets love and which help them stay as healthy as possible for as long as possible – and it’s great to know that people out there are finding they do just that!” Crown Pet Foods moved to the Castle Cary site in December 2007 from Yeovil. The site is home to the company’s first UK manufacturing plant as well as head offices, and employs some 100 people on site, many of them from the surrounding area and a further 77 in the national sales teams.
